It’s no secret that wide-leg trousers are on-trend and have been for a while. The perfect wide-leg trousers in my eyes are high-waisted with pleats at the front. The pleats give them that tailored suit-look which I just love.
The wide-leg trousers I am styling in this post are full-length, flowy, and have a very exaggerated wide leg. These are a very old pair and no longer for sale, however, I have found a close alternative below that is made from organic cotton.
Another option is these pleated wide-leg trousers from Reformation. I have these now and absolutely love them!
Below are my 8 outfit ideas and a brief description of how I have styled them. You can also watch my YouTube video to see these outfits in action.
Wide Leg Trousers Outfit Ideas
Outfit 1
I tried to create a cool very minimal chic outfit that could be easily re-created by many. I decided to finish off this look with my black combat boots, but any boots or trainers would also work. Underneath I am wearing a 100% wool jumper and over the top, I have layered two necklaces. I think the hat gives this outfit the perfect finishing touch.
Outfit 2
The inspiration for this next outfit, came from my love for vintage fashion. I tucked my long cardigan in and folded it over itself. I wasn’t sure it was going to stay put, but the trousers and belt seemed to keep it in place just fine. The layered necklaces are the same from the previous outfit, and the outfit has been finished off with block-heeled pumps. I used a brown belt and bag to bring some contrast into the all-beige outfit. I absolutely love this look!
Outfit 3:
This next outfit was inspired by French girl style. The hat I am wearing, I purchased from an old man at a vintage market in London. I also thrifted the floral cardigan and the brown bag. I was going to finish the look off with my block-heeled pumps, but instead, I decided to use a black strappy sandal, which I think is a bit more delicate than the full block heel – a better option to finish off the look.
Outfit 4:
I wanted an excuse to finally wear this lemon-printed top that I found from another thrift shop in Sydney. I had to alter this top slightly so that it would fit me better, but my gosh it’s gorgeous, on-trend, and best of all, it was so cheap.
Outfit 5:
For outfit 5, I kept it simple with all neutral colours. I kept the mood relaxed with a few buttons undone on my shirt and my jacket over my shoulders. I love the long length of the trousers, and how they hang over the shoes.
Outfit 6:
I couldn’t create a pleated trouser look without adding a blazer to create an overall suit look. It’s not exactly a fancy look, but I wanted to keep it lowkey-cool! So I paired it with ballet flats and a green t-shirt to bring in some colour.
Outfit 7:
For outfit 7, I used the black buttons in the trench coat to help me decide what accessories to choose. Adding a black belt and black boots just helps to bring the black buttons into the overall outfit, and make it look cohesive.
Outfit 8:
I experimented with layers in this next outfit. Underneath my cardigan, I am wearing a very vine wool merino skivvy with a mock neck. I have layered my necklace on top of this as I think it suits the nice V neckline of the cardigan. There are brown buttons on my cardigan, so I chose to wear brown boots and a browny/maroon coloured bag.
